Location - Disney World

I've skipped over new york as Ri is writing that blog (surprizing because of the theory if you don't have anything nice to say- don't say anything at all, so I can't write it) and he is half way through it. We are currently living and breathing a Disney life, and I am having so much fun. I wonder at what age I'll stop seeing myself as a Disney Princess... the answer isn't 25.
We're wearing massive badges that say 'Just Married'

Location - Canada 'eh

Written two days ago: Location: Kamloops
Kamloops is in Canada. Somewhere between Vancouver and Banff. We’ve spent the day on the Rocky Mountaineer admiring the beautiful views of the Canadian Rocky Mountains. We spent yesterday walking the streets of Vancouver, my impression of Vancouver is this, it’s a small community based city hip’d up on caffeine. Seriously we went for a 5 minute walk up a main street and saw no less than 10 coffee shops, half of which were Starbucks or Blenz. There was a Starbucks across the Street from another Starbucks... as I was looking at the first one it took me a minute to realise that I was seeing a reflection of ANOTHER Starbucks. So basically what I’m saying is that Vancouver is my kind of town.
Last night at dinner Ri explained to me that tipping in Canada is actually 15% - minimum. We had a mutual friend who was a waitress in Vancouver who told Ri that the waitresses actually argue over who has to take the Aussie customers as they never tips enough. It’s common practice for the waiting staff to have to put 5% of the meal price into a kitty that is shared, I think this has to come out of the waiters pocket if the traveller fails to tip. SO tip!
The Rocky Mountaineer left Vancouver at 8am this morning and we’ve spent all day on the train. We are divided into two classes, the red leaf and the Gold Leaf passengers. Us red leaf plebs are provided with little red leaf badges to wear, so they can tell the upper class from the lower class. I’m not wearing mine. There is something a little bit wrong about it. It’s already on our ticket! And once you are in your cabin you are not going anywhere. Ri has his on his jeans, under his shirt, which is about as close as Ri comes to disobeying an instruction. I would love this system if we were in Gold Leaf. This is the only thing I can complain about when it comes to our trip on the Rocky Mountaineer. So far it’s been amazing. I think I took about 300 photos today. I don’t know how I’ll choose one to go along with this blog!

Location: Vancouver
It’s our last night in Western Canada, we are off to NYC tomorrow (!!), and we’ve had an amazing time over the last five days. On our second day on the Rocky Mountaineer we saw a Ground Squirrel, a Black Bear and wait for it... a Grizzly Bear. A massive Grizzly just walking along a neighbouring rail line. It goes by so fast that I only managed to get a photo of the back of the black bears head. Oh he was cute. After our second day on the train we spent the night in Banff, I love Banff, it’s so cute. A real mountain town.
From Banff we caught the bus to Lake Louise, where we stayed at the Fairmont Chateau. This was the Honeymoon-y-ist part of our honeymoon on this ‘leg’ of the honeymoon. We could see the lake, which is currently partially frozen, from our window. We ordered room service, went for a stroll in the snow around the lake and had dinner at a ‘four diamond’ restaurant, where I tried about 5 red wines and ate so much that I felt ill. But it was so GOOD. Photos are required! As I’m too tired to keep writing about how amazing it was. Oh but I will say as we checked out I met Sonny the Executive of Pet Relations (a beautiful Labrador- ahhh cute).
We are off to New York tomorrow. Blog again soon.

Blogger is being difficult with images, so I'm only uploading one: The view from our suite at the Chateau....

Location - LA

We are on a very bumpy bus trip from San Diego to Los Angeles. whoever said that American highways were smoother then Australian ones obviously haven’t taken a bus along the I5. This is Ri by the way for my first post. We had a great time in San Diego although we didn’t do that much. The first day we just recovered from the couple of days of little or no sleep in Vegas and about 15 hours of driving. I managed to navigate the American roads across three states through the LA outskirts freeways and San Diego suburbia without any troubles or crossing over onto the wrong side, got us to our hotel and backed into a giant yellow pole. Luckily there was no damage but I felt like an idiot.
So after that we slept for about 16 hours which we both really needed. On the Thursday we got ourselves out of bed and made our way to the “San Diego ZOO” The Zoo was awesome and we spent pretty much all day there. The Highlight would have to be the Pandas as you can see from the Photo.

The great thing about “San Diego ZOO” on a weekday is that they have a Kids section with duplicates of the cute animals like the Meerkats and the Otters. This is good because all the field trips stick to this area and leave the rest of the place nice and quiet. On a food note if you’re a Veggie then the Black Bean Veggie burger at the Cafe near the Elephants is awesome.
On the Friday we had a little bit of a sleep in and then when for a drive down to the San Diego waterfront. It was just like the movies with people walking running and rollerblading (They love their rollerblades) up and down the “sidewalk” at the edge of the beach. We stopped that this Cafe called sound wave which is next door to 2 artificial surfing waves. I was tempted by the wave but it was cold and I was wearing jeans. The Cafe was awesome looking out over the water and the food was sensational. Tori claims that it was the best fish and chips that she has ever had and I had a massive chicken nut salad sandwich that was defiantly in my top five sandwiches ever. Despite the American sized portions we both cleaned out plates and sheared a delicious key lime pie. After lunch we drove around San Diego, did some shopping and saw some kids having a go in giant inflatable hamster balls on water (hilarious), and made our way back to the hotel. All in all it was good day where we go to see a bit of real San Diego rather than just the touristy stuff.

Tori here, one he did so accidently go into the wrong lane at least once!
Ri – Car parks don’t count

Tori again – it wasn’t a car park. I loved San Diego! To get the opportunity to go back to San Diego zoo 15 years after my first trip to the USA was great. The last time I went it rained! So to have a beautiful sunny day with all the baby animals out and playing was great.
Right now we are in LA at a hotel near the airport (we can see planes taking off – but can’t hear planes). Tomorrow we are off to Canada! I have never been to Canada!! We are going across the Rockys to Lake Louise! I’m pretty excited about the next week.

Location - San Diego

We are currently in San Diego (going to the zoo tomorrow) but seeing as all we've done in San Diego is sleep, I've uploaded some photos from Vegas, Arizona and San Fran.

On our last day in San Fran we hired a 'go car.' A small yellow 'car' that drives like a motor bike. After getting over the initial terror of driving in a tiny car on the wrong side of the road while having a computerised voice tell you that you are going the wrong way and her idea of 'fixing' the situation is by having us drive through a suburb we were expressly told to avoid... We actually had a great time. Plus don't we look cool?

From San Fran we flew to Las Vegas, where we stayed at Circus Circus. We were told that we MUST see a performance by Cirque du soleil, seeing that we stayed on a Sunday and Monday night their big show 'O' was not showing so Ri had a choice between three shows, one based on the music by the Beatles, one based on the music by Elvis, and one rated R. Knowing that I'm only a fan of music from the here and now he got us two tickets to the one rated R. It was soft core porn Cirque du soleil style. Ri was actually embarrassed and apologised for 'so many boobies.' Hahahaha. I would recommend it! It was hilarious.

From Vegas we drove (a real car) to Arizona and went to Hoover dam and the grand canyon. We enjoy a sleep in so we didn't get to Hoover dam until 1pm and only just made it to the grand canyon to see the sun set (it was amazing!). We didn't get back to Vegas until 1am.

We decided that as we aren't big gamblers that the only other thing to do in Vegas is get married. Seeing as we were already married we renewed our vows.

Elvis started with "Well we made it... how many years have you been married?" me: '9 days...' Elvis "Well we made it 9 days..."

It only took one night to get stuck on you,
and now my wish came true, you big hunka hunka burnin' love!
I thought you were nothin' but a hound dog, cryin' all the time,
but now I know you're my teddy bear
'cause tigers play too rough and lions ain't the kind you love enough.
So kiss me quick and love me tender for I can't help falling in love with you.

It's been a week. And what a week.

I love Americans

Americans have been victims of bad press. I know its only been two days, but I completely love Americans, they are happy and talkative, exactly how I remember them being in 1995.

Here are some pics of our first full day in the USA.

We're on our honeymoon, in San Fran, so the logical place to go?

Alcatraz!

We walked from our hotel to Alcatraz pier (The first pic is us as at a park in the morning). Ri would like to add that there are gum trees at Alcatraz.

This is for Ri's family (as when I went to Alcatraz my parent sprung for us to have an audio tour each, I didn't realise that it used to cost extra) but NOW the audio tour is FREE! So next time you come to Alcatraz, so do the audio tour!

On the ferry back to the pier Ri bought us prezels, one was stuffed with cheddar cheese. Ri loved it. American 'food' tastes amazing, but my tummy hurts!

I lived a dream by going to Star Bucks in the USA and getting a Venti.

Location - San Francisco

This wont be a very long post, as May 5th 2010 has been going for over 30 hours for us.

There was over 27 hours between checking out of Brisbane and checking in at San Fran.

Yeah, so I'm a bit tired... and so is Ri.

So much time on flights and in airports (4 airports, 3 flights).

We arrived in LAX earlier than we expected - 6 am here - at our original flight to San Fran was at 455pm. We thought we could waste a day at LAX (for some reason I had it in my mind that airports have clothing stores and places to eat). LAX is SO boring. Makes Brisbane airport look amazingly entertaining.

Luckil we checked in at 9am and the lovely lady changed our flight to a morning one. Virgin America is AWESOME. (I'll expand on that when my brain works again).

When we arrived at our hotel it was to early to check in, so we went for a walk around the streets of San Fran (being sure to avoid the area on the map the hotel check in guy blacked out while saying DONT GO HERE). And I'm come to decide that it doesn't feel like I'm in a different country. San Fran is kind of a mix between Melbourne and Sydney.

Anyway, there is my brief we're alive blog, night night.

Location: Brisbane, leaving tomorrow

Ri is currently in the city doing a last minute shop for bits and pieces.
The bag is otherwise packed.
My hair is SHORT, I'm talking pixy short, will post up photos of the travel do.
Mum dropped by some of our wedding cake so we can sit down and enjoy it.

I can see the packed bag, the passports and know that mum and my aunty are picking us up tomorrow morning to take us to the airport, but it doesn't feel real at all.

Our Wedding Day

Getting ready:
The Girls
I woke up at 5:15am, with Stace jumping on my bed singing (loudly) "COS WE'RE GOING TO THE CHAPEL AND WE'RE GONNA GET MAAAARRIED."
We had a massive breakfast of eggs, cereal, baked beans and toast.
At 6am the hairdresser was knocking at the door and started on Dels hair.
At 6:30 we had my new sister arrive (having stayed with Ri the night before hand) with my cousin/make up artist. My cousin was in her PJs, begging for a toothbrush, she'd slept right through her alarm (she'd had difficulties falling asleep, troll/gnu issues).
By 7am all the bridesmaid had arrived as I think mum was around somewhere, she didn't sit still until she had to get her hair done.
By 9am all of the hair was DONE and lovely.
By 9:30am I was bored so my cousin had me start on Stace's make up (apparently I did well at putting on a 'good base').
My dad arrived!
The flowers arrived!
My speechie mate dropped of a gift.
The flower girls arrived!
The photographer arrived!
The girls put on their dresses and then I had to put on mine.
That is when it got real! And my arm/chest started going red and splotchy - cousin+ to the rescue.
We had some photos taken.
THEN THE CARS CAME and we were off...

The Boys
Ri woke up (at 7am), had breakfast with his parents and nan, drove to pick up each of his groomsmen and performed a covert rose drop at where I was getting ready (he didn't leave a note - so mum claims that as they were left at her house, they are her roses...).
Ri went to his nans, and saw his cousins.
Went back to the hotel and showered, shaved (cut himself!), got blood on his shirt.
Organised the picnic for the photo shoot.
....then left for the chapel.

Chapel:
The Boys: The boys arrive at about 12:20, to find a whole heap of people outside the chapel waiting. Ri started directing everyone inside at about twenty too. The photographer arrived and he took photos of the boys (Ri didn't have his tie... the boys didn't have their hankies). And then the boys were directed to cool off in the backroom. Ri heard from official celebrant who reported that they were going to be late and to procede without her. Then I arrived and the groomsmen were sent to the entrance of the chapel and Ri took his position... and then the music started...

The Girls: I arrived at the chapel at about 1pm, our driver decided that there were to many people outside, so we did a lap of the block. Our car ride had been a long one, conversation had included everything from which cousin will get married next to the mating sounds of Koalas. After our lap of the block, we park up at the side of the chapel and as I get out of the car we get a SUN SHOWER! I haven't seen one in ages. Sunny Rain that has to be double good luck. We had some pictures taken. There was some hold up, but I had NO idea what was going on. The coordinator eventually came down and told me official celebrant wasn't there, but that they were 5 minutes away, so we were going to start anyway.
With the help of all of the bridesmaids I made it up the chapel steps. As soon as I got up the steps the coordinator is like - lets start the music! and I was like WOAH just got her give me 10 seconds. I gave the nod and the music started. I stood next to the bridesmaids and gave them a tap as a heard the cue in the music for each of them.
Then it was my turn!

As I was walking down the aisle I tried to focus on smiling and not falling over. The ceremony went really well, Ri was a little eager to say "I do" but other than that, neither of us had a ugly cry, the readers did a great job, and our friend who read the ceremony did a flawless job... until he said "and now to make it official here is the official celebrant..." he told me later that he looked up to see the chapel coordinator making massive NOOOOO gestures at him/waving her arms about like a crazy person. And all the poor boy could think was *F**k* - none of us suspected that she still would not be there.
I breathed, I smiled, I turned to our family and friends and said "well you might as well take a photo."
The celebrant for the next wedding had arrived (over an hour before her ceremony). So the coordinator pushed her down the aisle and we introduced ourselves. Did our vows AGAIN, and just as we were about to be pronounced husband and wife our celebrant arrived.
So we were finally announced as husband and wife (our celebrant didn't actually hear us do our vows, but we did them twice) and signed the paper work.

We greeted everyone as the exit, had a group photo taken and then headed off to our photo location...

Photo time:

It took me one minute to loose my husband.

Reception:

Sunday, May 2, 2010

Location: Brisbane

We are married! It is finally the 3rd of May 2010. Yesterday was our wedding day, and we both had a wonderful time.

The only thing that went wrong, proved that I was right, in that celebrants are not to be trusted! I am so glad we had a friend who was always going to do most of the ceremony.
I think we handled our celebrants very late entrance with humour and grace, but as a result of the official celebrant being so late we had no time for shots of the two of us in the chapel or for extended family shots.

The rest of the day went really well, all of the other providers did their jobs flawlessly. I am so thriled be finally be able to say I'm a Mrs.

We will be leaving later this week!
